National Homeland Security Knowledgebase Welcome to the official website of Civil Air Patrol GA-098 Black sheep Squadron located in Columbus, Georgia. The Columbus Composite Squadron's primary mission is to provide search and rescue (SAR) ground team support for the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) in addition to maintaining Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education and General Emergency Service readiness. Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF AUX) and is responsible for conducting 95% of all inland SAR missions directed by the AFRCC at Langley AFB, Virginia. During World War II, CAP flew patrols over America's coastlines, searching for German Submarines. Our Homeland Security mission continues today with capabilities that include aerial reconnaissance, aerial photography and radiological monitoring, in addition to disaster and damage assessment.
